Reset Forty, Day Thirty-Three

As I'd expected, Tuesday was about as frustrating and exhausting as Monday, and except for one problem still disappointing. I'd gotten a letter from my bank asking me to call them about unusual activity on my debit card, but the number they gave me was no their usual number, so I was a bit wary and decided to call their regular number to see if the number in the letter was actually theirs and not some sort of elaborate phishing expedition. When I called Monday I was a bit late, and got a telephone tree which was utterly unhelpful, so I had to wait until Tuesday.

When I got through to them I discovered that the bank had had a panic attack over my online purchase from Safeway last week. It was their real number, and they had sent the letter because they were unable to contact me by phone. It turns out I hadn't updated my phone number with them. So I confirmed that the purchase was actually mine, they called off their panic attack, and I gave them my new number. So that problem was a big nothing— just modern convenience being inconvenient again. If only the other problem could be as easily solved, but that is still up in the air. Well, maybe by next month, and maybe there will be no disaster. The bank got over its panic attack, maybe I can get over mine.

Anyway, I got up too early, and then the plumbing stuff I expected to happen didn't happen after all, so that inconvenience will come back again eventually. But the shortage of sleep left me tired again, though not very sleepy, and I muddled through the day and evening as best I could. Fixing dinner was out of the question, so I just microwaved a ramen bowl, which was nice for a chilly night anyway. In fact tonight is colder than it's been for weeks, as the storm (which did bring a few more sprinkles Tuesday) has passed through, dragging its cold front behind it. But today we will get back up into the seventies, so the furnace, active for the last two days and nights, can go back into hibernation. I'm sure I'll miss the cold by next week, but I won't miss the furnace.

So I'm about to go to bed, and hope I can get to sleep easily. It's sometimes difficult when I'm overtired. And I hope I don't wake up too early again. What I'd really like is to sleep for about ten hours, but I'm sure that would be a bad idea. My back would ache for days. So I'll hope I get what I need, not what I'd like to have. And I'll hope I can tell the difference.
