Reset Forty, Day Forty-Three
My computer (or whoever uses it to spy on me) doesn't know where I am, so the weather report that Microsoft sends me might be from anywhere within a few hundred miles of the mini-metropolis, and the place it's from changes from day to day. When I got up Friday afternoon, it thought I was in Los Angeles, and it told me it was 65 degrees outside. In fact here it was over eighty, but I was reminded of how deliciously chilly L.A. can sometimes be in May, thanks in large part to the cold current that runs along the coast. I have been to a Los Angeles County beach in May and found it fogged in. As soon as I stepped out into the central valley heat Friday, I missed Los Angeles, terribly.
But I got through the torrid day, despite the taunting from Microsoft. Tonight it has cooled off, and the fan and open windows have brought the apartment down to seventy degrees, which I can live with. But now Microsoft is showing me the weather from Seattle, and it is only 47 there tonight. I have no idea how chilly L.A. has gotten. Maybe I'll find out tomorrow, or maybe Microsoft will think I'm in Phoenix, and I'll see a temperature closer to the one we've actually got here, or maybe it will show me Sacramento, which is often almost the same.
Not surprisingly, there have been various aches and pains, mostly induced by uncomfortable sleeping, and a wonky neck, and lots of lethargy, and I made a peanut butter sandwich for dinner. It will be hotter today. When I look at the triple digits forecast for the middle of the coming week I feel like heading for the coast and never coming back. But I hate to travel, so I just watch YouTube videos. Maybe I'll be okay.
Here is a video of one of the greatest performances of any song by anyone of all time. Its only fault is that it's so brief. It must have been hot on that stage, too. Ella had to mop her face.
