Reset Forty-One, Day Twenty
Monday the world decided to mess with me, mainly by ruining my sleep. It started off well enough, with the apartment down to a pleasantly cool 70 degrees for the first time in a week, and I was looking forward to sleeping comfortably after a few bad nights, but just three hours after I drifted off there was loud clomping on the roof. The HVAC for one of the other apartments was being replaced, and this involved two big trucks, one to deliver the unit and another with gear to hoist it onto the roof, and all of this was taking place just outside my bedroom window and over my head. I tried to get back to sleep during a couple of lulls, but they were too short and by ten o'clock I realized it wasn't going to happen, so I got up and started my dazed day.
The crew didn't leave until about four o'clock in the afternoon, by which time the day was as exhausted as I was. Like the day, I held out until sunset, then crashed. I slept until after two o'clock this morning, and had last night's dinner about four in the morning. So it's all been very odd. The night grew delightfully cool, though, and I've had the fan on and the windows open and the apartment is back down to seventy degrees, and I'm thinking I might soon be able to go back to sleep again. It's supposed to get up to ninety degrees today, but there will be a few less torrid days after that. Thursday looks nice, at 77. Next week looks pretty bad, though, with highs in the nineties all the way through starting Monday. I guess I shouldn't plan anything but hiding out. I sure hope I won't be needing a new HVAC unit. That one less than four years old has failed worries me.
