Reset Fifty, Day Forty-Nine
Sleeping at night is getting difficult again. I can't seem to stay unconscious for more than two hours, and then I wake up but remain dopey for a couple more until I finally give up on getting back to sleep and go do morning things half-assedly. This morning I need to be ordering stuff from Safeway for my niece to pick up this evening. She doesn't get off work until around five, which will make for a very long day for me, since I've been more-or-less awake since about two o'clock this morning. Maybe I can get a nap, but it will probably be interrupted by text messages from Safeway about substitutions they want to do on my order. I need to be attentive to those, as some are quite poorly chosen.
The stuff I'm ordering this week will be costlier than the stuff I'd have gotten last week, had I been able to get someone to pick it up for me. But it's mostly stuff I actually need, and I'll avoid a couple of appealing items I'd have gotten last week only because they were a.) tasty and b.) on sale really cheap. Like the 12 muffins (18 bucks worth) for ten bucks. I'd still have some of those, going stale and getting less appealing by the day. This week I'll get more practical stuff, like butter and mushrooms, on sale.
But I should eat something before I order, so my eyes won't be bigger than my stomach. Or my budget. And it's going to be 99 degrees today, which will make me more morose as the day wears on, even though I'll stay indoors. That air conditioner will soon start its droning and I'll be sitting here in the draft. Summer being obnoxious for at least two more weeks. It's only the end of August tomorrow. What along season it's been.
