51/43: Jobs Half Done

Thursday was of course a pig's fecal breakfast. The backed up sewage pipe was also effecting a neighbor, and by the time I called the landlord about my blockage the plumbers had already been summoned. They arrived around elevenish, and futzed about with the septic tank and snaked the pipes, which I could clearly hear. I didn't know about the neighbors' problem at the time, and was expecting the plumbers would call on me, but they never did, and I heard them take off just before noon. I went into the bathroom and flushed the unflushed toilet and it sort of worked, but seemed a bit slow. The bathtub was another matter, and the drain was still clogged, with obvious fecal natter still trapped in it.

I called the landlord back to see if the plumbers were returning later, but I had to wait for a call back myself, and then was told the job was done. I checked the toilet again, giving it another flush, and the flow was adequate, if not impressive, but the tub was still a definite problem. Bu the plumbers had knocked off for the day, and a long weekend, so I was essentially told I would have to wait, and see if it improved in the meantime since the main obstruction was definitely gone. Later I tried the warm water, baking soda and vinegar technique I used to use quite successfully on my kitchen sink at the old house, and though I did finally get some drainage from the tub, and got the feces down at least into the tub's drainpipe, it's still way too slow. There is obviously a clog in there aside from the one that was removed from the main drainpipe. I'll try another round of vinegar, baking soda and hot water, but I suspect I'm stuck with the situation until next Monday at least. Crap. Literally.

Humans and our technology. We're not really a slow species, but were not really a fast species either. We're more just a sort of half-fast species (say it out loud.)

Anyway. We get an 81 degree high today, and it's the last one in the long range forecast. There's a good chance it will be the last one until next spring. Everything else coming up is sixties and seventies. Autumn has definitely arrived. There's a very good chance I'll be needing the furnace late Sunday, or early Monday morning. And if not then, by Monday night. Summer had a long tail, but it will be vanishing around that corner now. And the tail was the best part.

I wonder if I can go back to sleep now? I've been up since two o'clock in the morning. But I just ate pasta with cheese and marinara for breakfast, and that's probably going to bring intestinal havoc. Why do I do these things? I know: stupid old guy.
