51/60: Flood Me Not
Sunday night I think I was in bed longer than I've been in years. I didn't sleep the entire time, of course, but even when my brain hopped into the hamster wheel it stayed only a while and when it got out I would go back to sleep. In the end, I woke up to gray light and the sound of raindrops. It has been raining ever since, sometimes quite furiously, and we've even gotten a region-wide flash flood warning from the weather service, in effect until 2:00pm. I do hope we don't get flooded here again as we did the first spring I lived here.
I had very few things in the apartment then, and could easily stack most on the closet shelves, the kitchen and bathroom counters, the bed, the table, and the couch. Now I've got stacks and stacks of books I won't have room for off the floor, (not to mention having no energy to actually move them.) Plus I didn't fix dinner last night, and was planning on doing dinner for lunch today. And the flood back then was in spring, and followed by fairly warm weather, so drying things out was way less trouble than it would be now, with months of chill coming up, and now more rain predicted for Wednesday and Thursday.
Ah, I hear a lull in the rain. Perhaps I should fix my food now, in case there is a power outage later. Awfully early for lunch, but better safe and all. At least I'm fairly well rested, and probably won't need a nap until after the alert ends. And it's a holiday, so I don't have to worry about any of my snail mail getting ruined in the leaky mailbox. Small favors, plus tea and cookies (if I'm still hungry after early lunch), for a rainy day.
