52/447: Bright

Tuesday evening I went out under the cloud-tumbling sky to check the mailbox, which turned out to be empty, but I got to feel a few raindrops. I don't know if the rain continued, or if so how intense it became, because a short time later I began a nap that lasted far into the night. I woke a couple of times after midnight, but then dozed off and on until near three o'clock, at which time a growing hunger fully woke me and I fetched myself some juice and Idernet, followed by some barely adequate substitute donuts.

The outdoors is not wet this morning, or even damp, and there is in fact some fairly bright sunshine spilling from the mostly clear sky. The forecast is saying there could be more rain this evening, but if there is I suspect it will be pretty much a repeat of last night's. Given my sleep pattern, I'd probably be unconscious during it anyway.

My decrepit glasses have developed a flaw. Long ag they lost the nose paddles, but now the metal device that held the paddles appears to be coming loose, and a sharp little mini-sword is now stabbing my nose. It has done some very unpleasant scraping, and the marks it has left are scabbing over. The mini-sword re-scrapes the scabs and it hurts like a very small scale hell. I tried fixing it with some gum over the sharp spot, but that was a fiasco, as I'm sure most people will immediately know. Give me a break, I'm an old geezer who was never good with technology to begin with.

Anyway, I've mostly just been leaving the glasses off, except when I have to move around and need to avoid obstacles. The computer monitor and print on a page both look clearer when I just stick my nose up close to them anyway, so that's what I've been doing for a couple of years. Replacing the glasses would be a major asspain of making appointments and filling out forms and going in unpleasant traffic to places to get bright lights shone and puffs of cold air blown into my eyes, so I'm thinking I might just try to get by without any damned glasses for a while. Except for the walking about thing, of course. I mean how much longer am I even going to have to put up with being alive anyway? So. The course of least resistance. Yeah, I'll enroll in that.

And I think I'm going to fix the oven-based dinner I haven't eaten for the last several nights for lunch today. The apartment is a cool 71 degrees, which is also supposed to be today's high, and running the oven won't add heat that I'd want to be rid of. A decent lunch would compensate somewhat for those crappy substitute donuts I had for breakfast. If I don't stroke out or fall over or anything, life today could end up bordering on downright tolerable.
