Clouds, no Rain

It's as though spring arrived in disarray, with the warm, clear middle part leaping into existence with a sudden profusion of leaves and flowers, and then the early spring following after, bringing cool days full of white and gray clouds and then, cold, clear nights. All the color has drained from the lilacs, and the day lies, saying they will soon bloom.

Yesterday's clouds departed without leaving any rain, though. Today's probably will, too. The crew finally arrived to take the top off of the tree across the street, early this morning, disturbing my sleep. They've left about twenty-five feet of the bole standing. It's like a totem pole with nothing on it but little pale spots where branches used to be. They'll probably wake me up yet another day to finish the job.

I had a vicious headache last night, of the kind that usually returns three or four days in a row. My back is out of place from sleeping on the floor three days in a row. I also have a bit of a sore throat and, unless my allergies are acting up again, the feeling that I'm coming down with a cold or the flu. I've taken something for it. I don't know if it will work.

Thanks to everyone who expressed their sympathy about the cat. I'm not making replies to individual comments, as I'm still having to keep the room warm in case I am coming down with something, and the computer isn't going to remain stable for more than a few minutes.

I'll be quiet now.
