Sprinkles
Light lingers in the sky past eight o'clock now. There was at last a sprinkling of rain this afternoon -- not much, but enough to briefly make the pavements shine and coat the leaves with drops which sparkled when the sunlight returned. Dusk is cloudy, and the crickets are silent. The chilly air smells of damp.
I'm glad now that the warm, dry days came early this spring. The kitty had a last few pleasant afternoons and evenings outdoors, nibbling grass, watching the world from the porch and exploring her favorite spots before she fell ill. Most years, it would have been to cold and wet for her to do that, and she would not have had those bright shafts of afternoon sunlight warming the bed for her late naps.
I wasn't going to do any work today, but I ended up changing the bedding, doing several loads of laundry, and moving a bunch of stuff around and sorting it for storage. I ought to do a bit of sorting and discarding with Sluggo's hard drive, too, and make some backups on CD. It soon will be too hot for those time-consuming tasks. The lingering headache makes staring at the monitor unpleasant, though, so I probably won't do that tonight. I'll probably just move more stuff around in real space, and maybe lie on the floor and stare at the ceiling for a while, listening to the silence.
