Chirp
The half moon is still bright, floating amid a halo of thin clouds, when the palest gray light of approaching dawn arrives in the east, and suddenly the robins begin to chirp. What makes them so eager to rise and start their day? Maybe it's food. Maybe it's the prospect of mating. Maybe they just enjoy annoying the humans. They are loud! The hours of peace are shattered in a moment. This time of year the robins are worse than the blue jays. It's a wonder I get any sleep at all. Why can't I have larks and thrushes singing pleasant, sleep-inducing songs, rather than these piercing shrieks? I guess that's what I get for being nocturnal.
