Allure

The first cricket I've heard this year is chirping in my back yard. I suppose it's only a matter of time before a feral cat finds it and eats it, but for now I'm enjoying the music. It provides a nice complement to the croaking of the frogs, who have a slightly faster rhythm. I've been out listening since he first started in around dusk. The crescent moon has come out, and the air is very mild. The Internets have no allure compared to a cricket's song on a mild spring evening. I hope he stays well hidden from those cats.

My old boy Zack would eat the big, black crickets but not the tiny ones that had a much shriller song (that actually sort of hurt my ears), and not the cave crickets that would've made a real meal for him. Glad you enjoyed the serenade!
