I suddenly find myself with a 49333bps connection. For some reason, it doesn't seem any faster than the 28K I had with the old (CURSE IT) modem. I'll never understand this machine!

We have two phonelines. The primary one lets me connect at 48.8 bps, but if I connect on the second one, then I can only get up to 28.8 (and I can only get that high of a connection on the second line if I pray to the Internet gods and they are having a good day).
