Could this be a record for number of comments generated by a single post? It has increased by nine pages in the last hour or so. I think it must be the record.

It's nearing 6000 comments at this moment. Since there are over a million active journals here now, if ten percent of the users comment once on that post, that will be over 100,000 comments. It doesn't show any signs of slowing down. This will be fun to watch. I wonder if the post will get farked? That could really set it off. Millions of comments!

I believe fark posts are submitted by members of that site; unfortunately I don't know the details of the submission process, and can't figure out how to become a member, or I'd submit it myself.

However, Fark seems to run more towards news; utterly bizarre news at times, but the kind of news you come across in newspapers. I don't know if this is Fark material.

It probably isn't the sort of thing they would link to, come to think of it. In fact I've only ever seen one LJ entry that got farked, and that was a post of some photographs of strange chalk drawings in London. As I recall, that one only got up to about 40 pages of comments, though.

It will be interesting to see if there is some limit to the maximum pages there are or if something will blow up.

Another page of comments has been generated since I posted this, just a few minutes ago. I'll be those collapsed threads are still generating new comments, too.

257 pages will be the first milestone that needs to be passed. If it makes it that far the next milestone is over 65 thousand pages.

It could be implemented such that 4 billion plus pages is the max.

It's at 233 pages this morning, so we might get to see it reach 257 sometime today. I wonder if something will explode?

Apparently all is well. It would have only broken if the design was completely brain dead.

There's just something about the gay marriage post that makes everything around it ten times more verbose.

That one post has already received more than twice the number of comments that I have gathered from more than two and a half years of entries. It's quite astonishing.

Yeah, memes are funny that way. I'm just happy that it's a positive thing rather than just a complaint-fest on lj_support.

I think my record numbers are on a haiku war. that's sort of how the haikuarena got started... a few people flinging 5-7-5 verse at one another until knocked out.

It was fun mailbox reading for a day... I think I got something like 300 notifications.

I added a comment or two to it. An important issue is no reason to regress into comments like "YEAH UR TOTALLLY RITE". Come on, people.

It's regression to the norm, I fear.

Yikes! Even averaging only a few words per comment, that would take longer to read than would War and Peace! But I'm wondering what subject would elicit such an outpouring?

maybe "why is LJ soooo sloooow?" or "Thanks for the feature, brad" over and over?
