I think I'll start counting the days I can avoid turning on the extravagant air conditioning system. We avoided it today, even though it approached 100 degrees outside. I have a sweltery future.

Speaking of heat, this guy's remarks come dangerously close to official trolling. I find them so obtuse and rude that I can't even find words for response.

I know nothing about all this except for what you just shared, and the response. Personally I find the people I enjoy here the most are at opposite ends of the age spectrum, so I would NOT like a division by age. How about a division by vocabulary? Not spelling, that can be largely typos and speed.

I don't think they're actually intending to divide the site by age. That's mostly speculation based on something fairly stupid that the company published on the page introducing Vox, their new service:

"How is Vox different from TypePad, Movable Type, and LiveJournal?

"TypePad and Movable Type are the first choice for professionals, businesses, and anyone who needs to take complete control of their public-facing communications. They are the ultimate ad-free tools for commercial blogging.

"LiveJournal has grown to be an amazing community of fiercely independent bloggers, primarily teenagers and twenty-somethings. Over the past seven years, that community has developed in both its scope and its need for powerful customization. We think that Vox will be a great choice for bloggers looking for a more turnkey environment that balances community and privacy."

Mostly distinctions with little difference, to my mind, but phrased in a way that is condescending and insulting to many LJ users. What I see is not some well-thought-out plan to change LJ into something more like MySpace, but a fairly half-assed attempt to get out from under LJ's history by duplicating its functions (along with a better integration of journaling and image hosting elements than LJ yet provides) on a new site that runs on proprietary code. I also think the company is spreading itself too thin, and that's the main thing that doesn't bode well for LJ. They probably will market Vox to an older and less geeky crowd, but in the end I expect it will just take attention away from LJ, which will then be allowed to languish.

Also, I don't think dad loves us anymore, and I don't think our step mom ever loved us. That's probably what's really at the root of the drama in this situation. The family was always a bit dysfunctional, but now it's dysfunctional and exploded, and includes an angry uncle who beats up on us if we publicly worry that the overbearing, secretive and arbitrary adults might be up to no good. We'll probably all end up needing therapy.
