Bees everywhere, masses of pollen making me sneeze and ache, grass leaping several inches high almost overnight, all indicate that nature is having wild, crazy sex. I'm in the middle of an orgy in which I don't get to participate. Thus I intend to get all broody and morose. The only thing that would please me at this point is more rain, and there's none expected. It was eighty-five freaking degrees here today! There's apt to be cooling early this week, but for now I just stay indoors until night is well under way and the breezes have dispersed some of the day's heat. Maybe there'll be just a hint of sea in it. Quit threatening me, summer!

Sunday Verse

The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveler hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands
Efface the footprints in the sands,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveler to the shore.
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
