Tea Time

There's definitely a wintry chill in the air tonight. I don't think I'll be going out much. Whenever I do, my ears get all prickly when I come back into the house. Don't like the ear prickles. Besides, if I stay in the house I can enjoy looking at hundreds of vintage ads in The Gallery of Graphic Design. One ad even tells how to make 300 pieces of candy for 16 cents (at 1934 prices, alas.) The candy in question is a faux Necco Wafer, and 300 of those probably wouldn't have cost more than 40 or 50 cents in 1934, but if you make your own you can put different flavors in them. I'm thinking jalapeno wafers could be interesting. Maybe I'll try whipping up a batch someday.

Right now all I want is some hot tea and a cookie.

necco wafers, made with gelatine? hmmmm. jalapeno would definitely liven them up.

Up in Boston, one can actually navigate by scent when near the NECCO plant. The whole area is permeated with a distinctive mélange of NECCO wafer flavors.

By contrast, in my home town we have the scent of a clam processing plant.
