There's definitely a wintry chill in the air tonight. I don't think I'll be going out much. Whenever I do, my ears get all prickly when I come back into the house. Don't like the ear prickles. Besides, if I stay in the house I can enjoy looking at hundreds of vintage ads in The Gallery of Graphic Design. One ad even tells how to make 300 pieces of candy for 16 cents (at 1934 prices, alas.) The candy in question is a faux Necco Wafer, and 300 of those probably wouldn't have cost more than 40 or 50 cents in 1934, but if you make your own you can put different flavors in them. I'm thinking jalapeno wafers could be interesting. Maybe I'll try whipping up a batch someday.
Right now all I want is some hot tea and a cookie.

Date: 2008-12-08 12:16 am (UTC)Probably as a result of the popularity of Harry Potter, they now also make a line called BeanBoozled, an assortment of truly weird flavors— including "vomit"— that look just like the standard flavors with which they're packaged.
I've never had them, and can only surmise that the outer shells have a coating of the conventional flavor, and the insides have the weird flavor. Otherwise, the smell of pencil shavings or ear wax or whatever would give them away before you could bite into them and be surprised and revolted.
