It did clear up enough after midnight last night that I could have seen the meteor shower, had the meteor shower not turned out to be a dud. I might have seen a couple of meteor trails from the corner of my eye, but I'm not sure. I wasn't quick enough to catch them, if they weren't just wishful hallucinations. It was so cold that the lawn was crunchy, and crusted with frozen dew. After twenty minutes or so of craning my neck, and getting my ears just about numb, I went back indoors and watched television. Yay cable. At least I got to see Venus this evening, and the crescent moon which is now settling behind the pines. It's OK if the sky clouds up again now— which it probably will. I'm done with it until the weather warms up.

White faced kitty is sleeping in the chair on the back porch tonight. Gray cat is nowhere in sight, but had a snack this afternoon. I don't know if he'll show up again or not. If he does, and white-faced kitty is still here, there's apt to be a fight. If he doesn't, then maybe it's a sign that he's surrendered the yard to white-faced kitty— at least by night. That would surprise me a bit. He's never had a problem running his rival off before. We shall see.

i like the thought of the kitty on the chair. my mother used to feed a hard-scrabble cat she called "old ugly," because he really was, even his rusted voice. i made a project of trying to make him like me. once he came very close to letting me pet him. i'm glad she fed him for a long time.
