Day's light caught the tops of the pine trees, and it was almost the only sunlight I saw all day, so relentless was the overcast. It looked like winter all afternoon, but it was still hot. I got weather whiplash.

Early yesterday morning I saw the three feral kittens all sleeping on the chaise. It was the first time I've seen them together since last Sunday. They are beginning to each go their own way. This afternoon they were all in the back yard at the same time, but not close to one another. It's sad to see the litter breaking up. The brave kitten is growing faster than the others, and will soon be as large as his mom. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up bigger than the gray cat who may or may not be his father. I hope he doesn't become a troublemaker.

Portia, meanwhile, has discovered that if she turns up about dusk I'll let her in the house for the night, so she has appeared about that time for the last three evenings. She is like a limpet or barnacle. It's nearly impossible to get her off my lap once she's settled there for a nap, and her naps are long.

Pasadena will probably not burn, but it's sure going to stink for a while. The photo gallery is nice, though.
