Last night I wasn't quite quick enough shutting the computer down when the thunderstorm began, and a power outage shut it down for me. The machine seems none the worse for the experience (which is not saying much) but there is now a Windows\system32\cmd.exe window popping up every time it boots. As nothing else happened last night, I'm assuming the power surge set it off. Annoying, but easily ignored.

The thunderstorm lasted a couple of hours, but was much diminished after the first half hour. There has been occasional thunder grumbling in the mountains since, but nothing nearby. The rain was intense for a while, but tapered off and was over by morning. This afternoon there was a brief sun shower at the same time the damp roof began steaming from the sudden warmth of the emerging sun. The excitement is probably over now, and the cool weather with it. It's going to get hot tomorrow and hotter still over the weekend. All of next week is apt to be hot, too, with respite only at night. Summer is upon us.

So far I've heard nothing of any fires being started by the storm, but it sometimes takes a day or two for them to get going. I'll keep compulsively sniffing the air until I know for sure.

With the "good" weather in my neck of the nape, there has been all kinds of carpentry going on. (Even by ME!) And it disturbs my normal 0530-1300 slumber because the smell of sawdust on a ship is, essentially, the same thing as the smell of fire.

Hammering being hammering, I'm glad carpentry isn't going on here. It's not bad when it's far enough away, but when it's nearby the noise makes my ears feel like nails.

But then it would be stupid to do carpentry here right now because the entire town is probably going to burn to the ground this summer.
