Approaching eleven o'clock it is still over 80 degrees outside. Today was torrid. It was also the coolest day there will be until next Monday. AC, don't fail me now.

One would think I'd drop a few pounds in this heat, but when I don't cook meals I snack more, and I end up eating stuff like chips and cookies, and I wash much of it down with beer. That is not a diet for weight loss. If this weather keeps up for much longer I'll need new pants.

Tonight I don't even get relief by going outside because it's still so hot out there. It makes my air conditioned 78 degrees feel almost comfortable by comparison. It won't be comfortable getting next months power bill, though.

Now I'm going to go watch television. Maybe there will be something on that will take my mind off the heat.

Probably not, though. I don't think we get that sort of television show here in Hell.

I've been unemployed for neigh on a year now. The first 7 months or so, I had no broadcast (or cable, I still don't have any cable, I can't afford that shit right now) TV. But I DID have Netflix and HULU+. Anyway, Eventually, I succumbed to consumerism and bought the $50.00 antenna that gets you 8 channels on broadcast. Now, I get to watch Judge Judy and The People's court, which they don't have on HULU+. Anyway, they also have these other programs broadcast in-between. And when you have TOTAL control, like you do with Netflix and Hulu, it's a reliving change to just flick the remote and watch something you don't even want to watch, or even find interesting. You understand. I KNOW you do. Anyway, I had some pithy observation about which program they would show in hell, but I lost my train of thought during my exposition. Anything with a panel of women screeching about gossip qualifies, and shows that rely on Paternity tests qualify, but there was one show in particular I wanted to point out to you, because I believe you'd agree with me. But I've completely forgotten what in the hell it was.
Anyway, there is one broadcast channel that I think you'd like. Well, maybe I'm projecting that it's what you'd like, but I like it anyway. In the morning, when I'm going to sleep, they show "Leave it to Beaver" for an hour or so, and then at night, they've got Welcome Back Kotter, M*A*S*H*, Twilight Zone, Hogan's Heroes, and others that keep me away from "American Ninja". I'm not really sure exactly what I was trying to say here anymore, other than to commiserate with your situation. With the home-heating (up during the day and trying to sleep through the heat, and all)
It's not nearly as hot here as it is there, thank god!, but I think you know I've been reading your journal for a few years now, and have used your tips to keep things cool up here without expending any $$ on A/C. The last time I tried to plug my A/C unit into my 120+year-old wiring, I blacked-out half the house and cost a shitload of money to get it fixed. The Electrician told me I had to re-wire the whole house for thousands of dollars to get it to work, but I know the guy, and I sincerely believe he was lying to me in order to milk me for more money. Still, I don't believe him but i chose to rely on high velocity fans to cool me off instead. The fans make a LOT of noise, and I have to turn the TV all the way up, which might increase my electricity bill, but I'm not going to pay a couple of grand to get that guy to hook up my A/C unit the way it's "supposed" to be.
Anyway. My landlord pays for water, but I don't give a flying fuck about the "lawn" so that might make us even.
What I'm trying to say here is: Keep on Keeping on. You are a good man, and financial blunders, like, say, leaving the sprinkler on all night, may be immediately problematic, it still doesn't change the fact that you live a life much richer than that. You dig? I don't know anymore. I just know you are a good guy, and don't let any amount of self-incrimination or budgetary failings let you lose focus on that fact.

Have you seen anything good lately? I watched "When Jews were Funny" on Netflix two nights ago. I have cracked ribs right now, and I think the amount I laughed set me back a few days/weeks for recovery. Any suggestions for your east-coast shut-in?

Was it even hotter today? I'm trying to remind myself at intervals that I grew up in hellish Hoosier heat without air conditioning, but somehow that doesn't help much. :/
