The Clockwork Stars Are Wound and Set

rejectomorphThe spring nights are, as is usual here, rather cool, and I still need to wear a jacket when I go out at night to look at the stars. The spring sky is worth a bit of chill, though. The bright dust of the Milky Way is directly overhead,now, and the comfortingly familiar Big Dipper is in a good viewing position, well above the northern horizon. It was the first constellation I ever learned to recognize, and I enjoy watching it make its procession across the sky each night. I am always struck by how light so ancient nevertheless brings me a sense of freshness and renewal.
Thinking about getting one of those photo CDs made from some of my old snapshots, I'm faced with the dilemma of deciding which pictures to include. I've been looking through the stuff I have from the last few months in Los Angeles, in the summer of 1986. The maximum number of pictures I can get on each CD is 120, and I have more than 400 pictures to choose from. Of course, assuming that the quality of the pictures on the CDs is acceptable, I'll be getting all of them done, eventually.
But which pictures should I choose for the first batch? I could pick the best from each roll; or the ones that mean the most to me personally, even though those are often not so good, technically; or, I could sort them by subject matter, and then have to decide which subjects to include on the first disc; or just get them done chronologically, in the order in which they were taken. The last would be the easiest, of course. The fact is that I don't much enjoy organizing things and making decisions about them. The other fact is that, eventually, I'll have to make those decisions if I'm going to be putting these pictures up on the web. Make them now, or put it off? That's what it comes down to.
