I got a feed post shortly after this post appeared, but then nothing for several hours. A couple of people on my list post in the evening quite regularly, and they were missing. One of them has since posted, but said nothing today about posting difficulties last night. I think perhaps it was, as you said, Weltschmerz (or maybe angst.)
Everybody was probably staring, agape, at the news. I didn't even hear the news until after I'd posted, and then I avoided hearing any more about it until today.
