Check out the moon!
Jul. 17th, 2001 01:40 pmEarly this morning, in the hour before dawn when the eastern sky has just begun to pale, I saw the crescent moon rising in a triangle of stars. I recognized Venus, at the lower left point of the triangle, but don't know which stars were at the top and the right. At any rate, this was a sight well worth seeing. I'm not sure in which direction the moon will be shifting on Thursday morning, but the sight should still be impressive. I plan to be watching again tomorrow.
July, in remission, offers up a breeze.
The mulberry's fat leaves wave and flutter,
their shade a cool blanket for the parched lawn.
Skateboarders pass in the bright street, laughing;
angled arms and legs describe the glide
of day past small white house,
frontyard fence, oak and pine and oleander.
The fall of light on each grey grain of
asphalt weighs it with a shadow lengthening toward night.
But how, as easily as voices break this calm,
the solid light is broken by fluttering leaves!
Needs reworking, I think- but, what the hell.
