Bought a huge watermelon today. I couldn't resist. Even though I need to watch my sugar consumption, I just had to have one more before the season ends, and all they had were big ones. Could have bought a cut one, of course, but a big part of the pleasure of melons is making that first cut, hearing it crack open, smelling the fresh scent rising from the red flesh. (Wow, this is getting downright erotic!) I probably shouldn't have done it- I probably won't be able to finish it before it starts to go bad- but they have been so good this year. Ah, self destructive self indulgence!

Jimmy Eat World was on Letterman's show last night. I think I might actually like them.

Down at the house on the corner I hear kids playing. Reminded me of this verse:

From Kids at Play
by Donald Petersen

On the playground, in the street,
Careless children gather heat.

In their skulls a crazy voice:
Eat fire, eat fire, or turn to ice.

Fire, fire, kingdom come
Booms in the sky like a big bass drum.

Hi diddle-diddle. Come what may,
Turn to ash and blow away.
