Not Opera. Not Netscape Navigator. Certainly not Internet Exploder.

Deer.

They were browsing on my street again tonight.

Big deer, strolling across my lawn under a sky now cleared of clouds and filled with stars. Dim shapes in the moonless night, politely ignoring my presence a few yards away.

One of my cats sat watching them from the living room window. I would like to be able to see as clearly in darkness as my cat. Or, I would like the deer to visit at a time of day when the light was still bright enough for me to see them well.

After a day of bright light falling through diaphanous patches of cirrus clouds, the sun at last vanished into a dark bank of clouds that covered the valley. All there was of sunset was a pale band of purple above the dark mass, and a glow of pale rose in the thin clouds directly overhead as they were struck from the bottom by the vanishing light. Then, the fog rolled over the ridge until full darkness, when it thinned and revealed a cold night of stars.
