It grew a bit cloudy again overnight. The streaks above my house are pale pink in the early light. They are exactly the same color as the profusion of roses growing across the street. In the northeast, a great mass of cloud is making the rosiest glow of dawn I have seen in years. This one was worth staying up for. I will go out and watch it now. What is missing a few minutes more of sleep for a sight such as this?

HEAT

by H. D.

O wind, rend open the heat,
cut apart the heat,
rend it to tatters.

Fruit cannot drop
Through this thick air-
fruit cannot fall into heat
that presses up and blunts
the points of pears
and rounds the grapes.

Cut the heat-
plough through it,
turning it on either side
of your path.

~~~
somebody turned off the attic fan, I didn't notice until a few minutes ago, and the house is like an oven. grrr.
