A house at the cul-de-sac end of my street has an American flag of sorts made of Christmas lights in its living room window. There are alternating strands of red and white lights and a rectangle of blue lights in the corner. No white for the stars, just the blue field. It is flag redundancy, since they have an actual flag hanging outside their front door. I seldom go to that end of the block, so I don't know how long the electric flag has been there. At first, I thought they had their Christmas decorations up very early (or very late,) and it took me a moment to realize what it was. It is a good-sized window- about four feet high and six feet wide- and the flag fills it completely. Beyond its colored bulbs I saw the yellow lamps of the living room, and someone moving about, a dim, indistinct shape.

Take a look through the picture window. )
