ONE WHO WAITS

by Pierre Reverdy

It is indeed autumn that returns
Will someone sing
But nobody
except me
cares
I shall be the last

But she is not as sad
as has been said
this pale season
A little more sadness
To prove your point

The smoke asks
Will it be him or you
who will praise it
before the first frosts

And me I wait
For the last light
to rise in the night

But the earth descends
It's not all over
A wing supports it
All the time
I will go with you to the end of the line
To close the door
If it's too windy

My windows are clean. No cobwebs, no kitty nose prints, no water spots. I can see out. And it took only one afternoon. Now I am able to see all those little outdoor details without actually going outdoors. Of course, I like to go outdoors, so I'll probably go out just as much as I did before. But it's nice to know that I don't have to. So far, no birds have tried ot fly into the house, but, give them time. It usually doesn't take long for that to happen. I'll try to keep a cat in the window to warn the birds away. I wonder if they would settle for a picture of a cat? I have fourteen windows and only two cats. The cats like the windows, but don't want to spend all their time there. Or maybe I could just get more cats. A hundred or so would probably keep the windows full most of the time. Of course, that many cats would put an awful lot of nose prints on the glass, and the windows would be dirty again. I guess I'll just not worry about the birds.
