This is my favorite time of year for watching the moon, and the mild air adds to the pleasure of sitting outdoors. Last night, thin clouds again drifted across the sky like diaphanous strips of silk. In the soft late spring glow, the few objects picked out by the direct rays of moonlight that filtered through the trees were barely brighter than those in shadow. While the shadows cast in winter's high, bright moon are sharp and brittle, icy as winter air, those of a brief June night blend imperceptibly into their surroundings. The moon of late spring is an impressionist, painting the night with pale shades that shift and glimmer as we gaze, making the world seem as insubstantial as a dream.

It's heating up again. Even when I wait for evening to fire up Sluggo, he's only good for a few minutes. Anyway, there's no point in slaving over a hot computer when it is so nice outdoors. For some reason, I've taken to sleeping nine hours a day, too, so there's less time to do anything. It turns out that Saturday was flag day. Appropriate timing. Mid June is about when my energy starts to flag. The birds are energetic, though. The cherries are ripe, and birds have been happily pecking at them all afternoon. I'll have to nab some before they all get peck marks on them.

Post, read, go outdoors.
