The rain has passed, and the stars have emerged above the cold world. The lawn crunches slightly when trodden upon. Still damp, the pavements gleam with dim reflections. Today could bring blue sky and crisp air, and tonight the half moon will appear. A few more leaves will fall, opening a bit more distance. The world enlarges for approaching winter. Any day now, I expect the vaster air to fill with the honking of geese as they fly south, following the freshened streams flowing into the valley marshes. I shall don another layer of clothing, and welcome the declining days.

All day, the birds chattered in protest of the sudden change from summery to wintery. I may have let out a few screeches myself, when I first went outside. Sluggo, of course, seems delighted, judging from his relatively good behavior. I can put up with the cold if it means not putting up with his constant crashes. Now, I might be able to catch up on all those things I've been putting off, like e-mailing and updating Windows and uploading some pictures.
