Rare Light

The word is overused, but the clouds which formed tonight can be most accurately described as diaphanous, as can the moonlight they filtered. It was a light such as might be seen within a cloud of vaporized pearl, and the forest shimmered with an almost palpable glow. It was like the exotic luminary equivalent of the perfume of the jasmine which continues to enchant the nights. Alas that this vaporous celestial loveliness diminished the rate at which the previous day's heat radiated away, so that today's heat will have a head start. Every excellent thing has its price.

Further away, there is a report of a possible meteor strike in Washington state. If it turns out to be true, I'm envious. I've always wanted to see a meteorite smack into the earth, though I know that the odds are quite slim. That was only a few hundred miles away! If only I could see the top of Sawmill Peak blown off, I could die happy. So near and yet so far.

I'm just full of cliches this morning. I think I'll shut up now. There probably won't be an afternoon entry again today. A temperature of 95 degrees is predicted for Sacramento, which means at least 90 here. Sluggo will not be pleased.
