For the last couple of days my sleep schedule has shown signs that it might be about to go through more slippage. It's been difficult for me to get to sleep with so much daylight seeping in, and it's been difficult to wake after seven or eight hours. Each time this happens, adjustment becomes more difficult, too. I might have to go through the extreme re-setting of my internal clock, which would mean staying awake for about 36 hours straight. I used to be able to do that easily enough, but I doubt that I have that sort of energy anymore. It's been years and years since I've had to do it. I'll probably just put up with the slippage until it gets to the point where I'm waking up at sunset. It's easier to make the extreme adjustment from there.

At least I'm getting to see some sunrises these days. This morning, there are lots of little cumulous clouds in the east, being all bright and cheerful in the early light, and the pine trees are glowing green and gold as the birds sing. It's quite chilly, though, and this will be another five blanket day.

Things are pleasant enough here, but there is bad news from other places, especially for our fellow primates. (Link snagged from [livejournal.com profile] scottobear.) I suppose that the up side of the great apes becoming extinct is that, once we inevitably follow them, it increases the likelihood of some non-primate species becoming dominant on the planet. I'm rooting for the felines, myself. I sort of like the idea of the descendants of kitties colonizing space a million years hence.

Either Sluggo or LiveJournal is being very bad today. Since the weather is mild here, I'm guessing that it's LJ. Pages take forever to open, and sometimes won't open at all.

Following a bright afternoon, the clouds returned to create a gray evening with only a few patches of blue walled with fluffy white ramparts.

The crows have been active, and I suspect that they might be gathering for a crow war. It's getting rather late in the day for it, though. Maybe it will happen tomorrow. It would be an entertaining diversion.

The lawn is beginning to turn brown in spots, so it will soon be necessary to begin watering it. I'm surprised that it stayed green as long as it did, given the minimal rain the season brought. Most years, it doesn't need much watering until July. It's likely to be a long summer. I'm glad for the few days of coolness we are currently enjoying.

The twilight was remarkable. The clouds and hazy patches in the west all turned a vivid shade of mauve, which deepened to violet and then blue-gray. Alas that I have no camera capable of capturing such shades, or the subtle light pervading the atmosphere.

Now, I can hear the sound of soft rain which has refreshed the jasmine so that its fragrance once again fills the night air much as that unearthly light filled the evening. A single cricket continues to chirp from some sheltered dry spot. All the woodland is wrapped in moist serenity. I'm going out to join it.
