Wetness

Instead of fog, there came rain- almost as good. The gentle drumming and lucid trickling caused me to drowse, drifting in and out of watery half-dreams filled with images that evaporated almost as soon as they formed. It was a pleasantly unproductive way to spend a night. But I have much to do this afternoon, and must get to sleep before the gray light comes creeping. I hope the rain retains the power to lull me, now that my dozing has taken the edge off sleep.

Brrrr

February cold has arrived in November. I take my life in my hands every time I step out the door! My ears could grow brittle and break off! Well, maybe I'm overreacting just a bit. But it's cold!

Though the afternoon was gray, the moon now shines from a clear sky, so (for the moment) there is no risk of snow. Snow before the mulberry leaves are gone is definitely evil, and probably a sign of the Apocalypse. It would displease me for the world to end before I get more persimmons. So far this year, I've had only one, and it wasn't quite ripe. The bright and cheerful persimmon is one of winter's consolations, and annihilation must be deferred until I have more.

I will now shower, and thaw my ears with the warm water.
