The rain began sprinkling at midnight. The moonlight transmitted through the clouds cast its glow, and the wet pavement glistened. All night, I have heard the soft fall of raindrops and the trickle of runoff, and smelled the damp freshness. Even with windows wide, I have barely shivered. I have also been unable to keep the Slug going for more than half an hour at a time, with hour long breaks between for cooling. Little can be done in these circumstances. Spring will arrive before long, and I expect that Sluggo will at last become utterly useless when it does. I've put it off as long as possible, but now he must be replaced.

I had more to say, but Opera just crashed. I must post before the client follows.

Unseen

Gray skies remained all day, though the rain has stopped. At dusk (there was nothing that could be called a sunset) I heard geese honking, and the flapping of their wings directly over the house, but I didn't get outside quickly enough to see them. Earlier in the day I heard (or dreamed that I heard) a horses hooves clopping on the street, but by the time I had roused myself and reached the window, the street was empty. It has been a day of just missing things, some of which may have been imaginary. Tonight, the clouds must be quite thick, as the full moon is well risen, yet the light is very dim, and no pale spot appears in the dark and unvariegated roof which covers the world.
