Users of Internet Explorer can now pick up spyware while visiting Blogger. Bloggers who install on their pages various enhancements which depend on java or Active X can unknowingly infect vulnerable visitors with spyware, or inundate them with popup ads.

I found the story at Opera's new search page. Is everybody going to have a search engine?

But at last I've outsmarted Windows XP (not saying much, I know) and gotten Opera installed. It seems a bit slower on this computer than it does on Sluggo, though. Maybe I've just got a crappy connection tonight. Off to fetch Firefox now, I think.

Downloaded and installed Firefox. I haven't downloaded any plug-ins yet. I'm not sure which would be most useful to me. I've grown accustomed to certain features of Opera that I'd like to have, but I don't think that Firefox plug-ins are available for most of them. I especially like Opera's built in Note feature, which provides a handy place to keep stuff to be copied and pasted, without the bother of using Clipboard's annoying save feature. Opera also has a handy icon for launching a new page without going to the file menu. I haven't had much time to explore Firefox yet, so I don't know if it has an equivalent. I'll poke around in it tomorrow.

The new computer smells of plastic.

I see a dessicated moth stuck to my window. There are some cobwebs stuck to the outside of the glass, too. It's almost time for spring window washing, but probably not this week. There will be a couple of warm days, but more rain may fall by Thursday. Tonight has been cool and starry, and the waning moon is recently risen, though I can't see it yet where it lurks behind the trees. I'll be glad when the drama of dealing with the new computer is over, and I can get back to my accustomed nightly activities. The spring sky must not go unwatched!

Overnight, a pine tree up the block has shed at last fifty cones into the street. At least as many now litter the adjacent yards. None of the other trees have done this. It's arboreal onanism, I tell you!

More fun with nonagenarians: all afternoon, my dad was complaining about how bad his eyes were getting. He said his vision had gotten so much worse since yesterday that his reading glasses weren't working at all. This went on for more than an hour, while he kept taking the glasses off and putting them back on, to see if his vision was recovering or not. Only after having handled the glasses dozens of times did he notice that one of the lenses had popped out. Now we must go on a lens hunt, as he has no idea of when it was lost. I'm hoping he didn't drop it down the toilet.

It's warm today, and I'm actually using the new computer and it isn't crashing! Take that, Sluggo!
