Unmunched

We have a profusion of roses this year. The long damp of spring, followed by the recent warm days, has encouraged their growth. Yet the thing I think most responsible for the colorful display which has emerged along the street is the absence of deer. They have not visited the block in at least two weeks, and thus the flowers remain uneaten. When they do at last return in search of a snack, what at a feast awaits them! Until then, those of us who do not browse on bushes have an uncommon visual feast.

Overslept

My spider is back. I'm thinking it must have been on a vacation. Maybe it has a timeshare in some obscure corner of the room. Maybe it went somewhere to mate. Maybe I'll soon be seeing a swarm of tiny spiders. Anyway, it's back, and I'm happy to see it.

Today wll be the last (relatively) cool day for a while. By Wednesday, it's expected to approach 100 degrees, and after that it will get really hot. That ought to kill the last of the gardenias, though. The worrisome thing is that July is seldom the hottest month of the year here. I still have August to get through.

Bidwell Park will be 100 years old on July 20th.
