Reset Forty-One, Day Twenty-Two

rejectomorphOnce again, hump day has failed to live up to its name. It's just as well. It was too hot to do anything but wilt. Even inside an air conditioned apartment, the sultriness was palpable, and stepping outside was to be absorbed by it, all your energy to vanish like a puff of smoke. I stayed in. For dinner I returned to the old reliable sandwich and a bottle of beer. I'm out of potato chips, and I might now be out of pickles. I'll have to root around in the cupboards to see if I have more somewhere that I've forgotten about.
These days I survive by anticipating the respite the cooler nights bring. Once actual summer is here I will no longer have them. But after one more hot, though less so, day today, there will be a daytime respite for two days, and Friday and Saturday return to something like normal spring weather. Perhaps my brain will function better, and I will remember to water the plants in the back yard, which I have forgotten to do for two days now. I want to make sure that those growing grapes get as much water as they need. I'm hoping the grapes will be in some small way compensation for enduring the heat that will soon engulf us. Oh, summer, you bastard.
