Blathering

Drat. The nights are terribly short now, and I shorten them further by unintentionally napping away big chunks of them. I end up seeing too much morning, and being chuckled at by woodpeckers. It's only in the last couple of years that I've begun taking unintentional naps. They are happening more often all the time.

There's a new tiny spider on my wall. It looks as though it's going to take up residence near the same spot the other tiny spider lived last summer. It might catch some of the gnats who've been buzzing my lamp, and another one of which just drowned itself in my water glass. A lot of them do that. They might as well feed a spider as commit suicide and thereby inconvenience me by forcing me to remove their tiny cadavers before I can take a drink.

The heat has not entirely left the house. This is the first morning of the year on which I've had that sunburned feeling I get when the room is too hot. It's going to be difficult to get to sleep, especially as the edge has been taken off by the nap.

Other people have real problems. I have discomforts and inconveniences. So, I'm lucky to have no life. Having thus cheated fate so far, I'm probably doomed to suffer its vengeance. Maybe my somewhat fevered state is a symptom of West Nile Virus? I do have a recent mosquito bite. Ever the optimist, huh?

Heated

Vapors filled the sky in the form of tiny puffs of summer cloud. The sultry, muggy air matched the sky. It was oddly tropical. I had the sudden desire to see papaya, banana, mango and macadamia trees growing in the yard. Maybe a few coconut palms. The pines and oaks failed to transform themselves, though, and the blue jays remained blue jays instead of becoming brightly colored parrots. I contented myself with eating a slice of casaba and listening to mambo. Not the same.

Three of the four bushes in the front yard have nesting pairs of blue jays in them. Either the cat is going to feast this year, or it's going to get very noisy here in a few weeks. Baby blue jays are surprisingly loud, and their cries incessant from morning to night. I'm pretty sure I'm being set up to be punished for something, but I don't know what.

Also, I've got the feeling it won't be cooling down much tonight. It could be a tough summer ahead.
