Damp

Hours of silent mist accumulate and the trees begin to drip. Eventually, the dripping is as loud as a rainstorm, but still there is no rain. The persistent mist swirls and gathers and everything is saturated. No sunrise this morning, I think. Just the dripping damp.

Pleasant discovery: The University of Texas at Austin has a large collection of maps online, including historic maps of U.S. cities. When I was a kid we had an old Collier's Atlas and it had some of the same city maps available on this site. Double dose of nostalgia.

Disturbing revelation: From Scientific American; Families become suspects as rules on dna matches relax.

Still

It sounded like a frog, but then it sounded a bit like a duck as well. It was out there for only a minute or two and I didn't get to see it, whatever it was, before it vanished into the ambiguous afternoon that would not rain and would not shine. The ambiguity has now been hidden by night, but I'm quite sure that, unlike the creature who sounded like a frog or a duck, it is still there.
