This afternoon I watched a flock of robins leap and fly to perch in the bare walnut tree when I startled them as they pecked at the back lawn. They got direct sunlight as compensation for the interruption of their meal. At nightfall, a wind arose in the treetops, so that the pines hummed though the remaining leaves of the mulberry tree barely stirred. The sunlight was bright all afternoon, and the moonlight is bright now. The air is of such clarity that my muddled brain is envious of the sky.
