Hotness

I suppose that being about halfway through spring is reason enough to expect an occasional day when the temperature reaches the mid-80s. But it doesn't mean I have to be pleased about getting what will probably end up being a whole week's worth of such days. Too soon! Even the bright strew of golden poppies in the back yard would be more enjoyable to look at if the daytime air were ten or fifteen degrees cooler. But, the afternoon being hot, I wait for the cool of evening to go out and inspect the blossoms, and by then they have begun closing. It's a nice big crop this year, though. I bet there would have been a good crop of cherries this year, too, if the tree had survived this long. Ah, well. At least the tiny buds which will soon be jasmine flowers are abundant. Should the weather be very hot there will be some compensation in the richly scented nights.
