Dusk lingering as nine o'clock passes reminds me how near the summer solstice is. The air is now full of dandelion seeds and small insects. When I turn on my desk lamp, moths, large and small, come crowding at my window. I see their velvety undersides and the gleaming jewels of their eyes as they walk across the glass. Half an hour goes by. From my brightened room the night goes black, but if I go outside I see the deep cerulean glow which remains overhead shot with emerging stars. The stars are mostly blue-white and, but for that color, they remind me of the orange moth eyes at my window. All around, the crickets are chirping, a bit faster each night. The season accelerates toward its climax. The pace leaves me breathless.
