I've been expecting to hear thunder for hours, but there's been none. Yesterday's haze became an overcast which thickened, forming clouds first above the canyon and the mountains and then everywhere. No direct sun reached the ground after four o'clock, but the heat remained intense. If there is a storm, things will cool off. If the clouds remain unbroken it will be a miserable, hot night. Naturally, I'm hoping for a storm, even though there would likely be a power outage, and might be a lightning-induced fire, or both. Anything to be rid of this heavy air which will otherwise be sitting under its vaporous blanket all night, hoarding heat.
