Sultry

Well, hot heat arrived today. It was bound too come. We are less than two weeks shy of the summer solstice, after all. Outside it's not too bad right now, but the windows don't fetch enough of the evening coolness, even wide open.

If I felt like staying in longer, I'd make a closer examination of realXtend. No, it's nothing to do with that "male enhancement" product advertised on television. It's an Open Source platform for virtual world applications. Not that I use anything such as that, given the fact that Sluggo's replacement is getting on in months and would need a serious RAM upgrade to deal with VR stuff. Besides which, even though I finally got around to installing Microslough's service pack 2, I still haven't gotten the .NET stuff you need for so many of those web 2.0 (or whatever it is) thingies. No Second Life for me! I'm avatar free!

A YouTube discovery: Hollywood Schmaltz from 1928! It's Dolores del Río (not the best of vocalists, alas) singing the song written for her to sing at events promoting the movie "Ramona" (one of many cinematic versions of Helen Hunt Jackson's hyper-romantic tale of Old Imaginary California.) The song was an enormous hit in its day, recorded by the likes of Paul Whiteman and Gene Austin. Today, this engagingly quaint song is nearly forgotten, though its composer, Mabel Wayne, and lyricist, L. Wolfe Gilbert, have been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame
