All those steamy clouds made it look as though summer might begin with a thunderstorm, but I knew it wouldn't. Rain avoids a California summer. All we've got is lawn sprinklers, and it would be unwise to use them too much when it's likely a long period of drought is beginning. The poor sourgrass plants are already wilting from the heat, too. I'd like to hear the water trickling around them, but can't bring myself to turn it on, even by night when evaporation is lower then when the torrid sun is out. But even without the sound of running water the night is nice. I'm going to go out and spend as long as I can watching the summer moon light the clouds.
