Away, Summer!
Sep. 21st, 2008 08:52 pmIt makes me a bit sad that I've finished re-reading all of Jane Austen's books. I miss them already. Fortunately, a couple of things are around to restore my happiness. I dug through a pile of books and unearthed my volume containing three novels by Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz (recipient of the 1988 Nobel Prize for literature.) I'd forgotten I had it, and it's entirely unread! New tales! I've begun Midaq Alley, and so far it's holding my interest effectively.

hyperina, I've seen a YouTube video by 1980s English band The June Brides. They never became well-known in the U.S. and I've never heard them before, but this is a nice piece of '80s indie romantic pop, reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen. The band's singer/songwriter is now a civil servant, and seems content.

And here's something that seems to have been around for a few weeks now, so I don't know how I haven't seen it before: The RickRolling of John McCain! Some will be as unamused as Queen Victoria. I am quite amused.
And, of course, the clouds were lovely again today, in their end-of-summer formations piled against the mountains, and the squirrels and jays and woodpeckers were all chattering and engaged in frolic. A happy Autumnal Equinox to all.
