It makes me a bit sad that I've finished re-reading all of Jane Austen's books. I miss them already. Fortunately, a couple of things are around to restore my happiness. I dug through a pile of books and unearthed my volume containing three novels by Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz (recipient of the 1988 Nobel Prize for literature.) I'd forgotten I had it, and it's entirely unread! New tales! I've begun Midaq Alley, and so far it's holding my interest effectively.

Other thing restoring my happiness is, of course, Internetz. Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] hyperina, I've seen a YouTube video by 1980s English band The June Brides. They never became well-known in the U.S. and I've never heard them before, but this is a nice piece of '80s indie romantic pop, reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen. The band's singer/songwriter is now a civil servant, and seems content.

And here's something that seems to have been around for a few weeks now, so I don't know how I haven't seen it before: The RickRolling of John McCain! Some will be as unamused as Queen Victoria. I am quite amused.

And, of course, the clouds were lovely again today, in their end-of-summer formations piled against the mountains, and the squirrels and jays and woodpeckers were all chattering and engaged in frolic. A happy Autumnal Equinox to all.
