Lilacs. Those are the flowers I couldn't remember the name of the other day. Today, I remembered the name when I saw them, but the sun came out too late this afternoon to let them show off their color, the bush having been overtaken by the shadow of the house by the time the clouds parted. The fresh green of the new oak leaves was brilliant against the steely, dark gray of the clouds to the east, though. Acorn woodpeckers greeted the emerging light with loud chatter, and out at the street a blue jay pecked at its own reflection in the rear view mirror of a parked car. The whole evening seemed odd to me, but I didn't peck at my reflection over it.

There could still be more rain tomorrow. The cats probably won't be happy, but I will.
