It was supposed to be partly cloudy today, but it was only very slightly partly cloudy. All I saw were a few little sheepish clouds. Such clouds provide little shade, and these provided none at all here. The landscape will soon be as baked as my brain. The lawn is now thoroughly brown, and I expect the last green bits of the sourgrass will be gone by tomorrow evening. I'm thoroughly tired of summer.

It's goodbye to Walter Cronkite. And that's the way it was.

Also, a belated goodbye to architectural photographer Julius Shulman, who made mid-century Los Angeles look better than anybody else ever did (and way better than it really did look.)

Time to turn off the air conditioner, even though the temperature isn't expected to get below the low seventies here tonight. Running that machine to cool this leaky house is just too costly. Tomorrow will be hellish, I'm sure.
