Scented

A mild and breezy afternoon full of bird songs gave way to a still, cool night where the full moon rose to light a gauze of clouds which suddenly appeared. The scent of jasmine is long gone, but tonight the gardenias spread their heavy perfume. Tomorrow rain might wash it from the air, but for now it is pervasive. I used to find it cloying, but either I've gotten used to it or my sense of smell is not as strong as it once was. Whatever the reason I'm enjoying the perfumed night and the moonlight, but looking forward to the possibility of entirely different scents tomorrow night, should the rain arrive. As long as I don't have to smell any smoke, I'll be pleased.
